The word’s largest continent comprises two major actors of the global automotive industry:
Japan - the world’s second largest automobile manufacturer and exporter - is home to six of the 10 largest carmakers worldwide. The automobile sector is a key driving force for economic growth. Export figures of passenger vehicles and Mobile Air Conditioning (MAC) systems are already on a high level and are expected to rise througout the following years. The Japanese government has taken legal action to reduce the damage from hazardous material and greenhouse gases used in cars and MAC. |

The People’s Republic of China was expected to outrun Germany as the third largest automobile manufacturer worldwide in 2006. The automotive sector is one of China’s “pillar” industries and is expected to grow rapidly in the coming decade. Although the international competitiveness of vehicles and Mobile Air Conditioning systems is enhancing steadily, environmental laws and technological standards for cars and MAC still only exist to a limited extent.
