One of the largest supermarkets in Scandinavia, the Nordby Supermarket in Strömstad, Sweden, has cut energy consumption by up to 20-30% using a transcritical CO2 booster refrigeration system from Danfoss and Huurre. The CO2 solution provides cooling for the freezers, refrigerators and cold rooms and heat is reclaimed to heat the supermarket during the winter. + VIDEO by Danfoss.

Huurre and Coop Sweden have worked closely with Danfoss to create the supermarket cooling solution for Nordby Supermarket, one of the largest in Scandinavia, which receives a large number of cross-border shoppers from Norway.

Total CO2 solution for refrigeration, freezing and heating solution

According to the video the refrigeration has the following features:
  • Total effect of the three racks is 200kW for freezing, and
  • The mass effect of cooling is 750kW
  • Total effect of the condenser is 1mW
  • Network connected self monitoring system
  • 300m2 cold room, with two sets of cooling and controls, enabling it to be separated into two smaller rooms
  • Refrigeration system heat reclaim used heating for supermarket, offices and basement

Danfoss has excellent and reliable products. Furthermore, they have very good support in Sweden. With this kind of system, not only good products are vital, but also having the right people to support you. I am very proud of the control system from Danfoss and the technology from Huurre, and of all of the guys who have made this project come true, “ Fredrik Strengbohm says.
