SPX Service Solutions has refined its most advanced service station for cars, trucks, and buses to cater for the special requirements of R744 (CO2) air conditioning systems. The result is a fully automated and user-friendly unit requiring minimum user intervention while performing an accurate and rapid recharging of oil and refrigerant to the Mobile Air Conditioning system. Complying with EU and SAE safety standards, the product features a safety pressure relief on key points of the cooling circuit, an automatic vehicle pressure detection (alarm) and a thermal safety device to regulate the temperature and pressure switch to disable the heating element in case of excessive pressure. Moreover, the AC744PRO model will prevent freezing and explosive decompression as the CO2 recovery flow rate will be limited.

The service station, currently available as a prototype, will go into serial production, following car manufacturer’s final approval. Alessandro Carluccio, AC Business Line Manager at SPX Tecnotest Division, is confident that the new product will cater to the needs of OEMs and mechanics handling R744 Mobile Air Conditioning: “The growth of SPX/Robinair has always been directly related to our focus on developing and investing in new technologies. Combining technical knowledge and staying close to the customers is key in responding to market needs quickly. Our new fully automated CO2 service station is a perfect example of how the cooperation with engineers, OEMs and end users can result in innovative and sustainable solutions.”

About SPX/Robinair
Robinair was founded in 1956 to design and manufacture specialized tools for repairing appliances. With the increasing popularity of air conditioning for homes and automobiles, the U.S.-based company soon moved into this growing market where it nowadays has established a world-leading position in the AC system maintenance business. In 1982, Robinair was acquired by today’s SPX Corporation. More than 15 years ago, Robinair offered the first refrigerant recovery and recycling units in response to environmental concerns. The current move to R744 once again highlights its environmental commitment.
