With more than a century of experience within the refrigeration business Johnson Controls and its product brands are well recognized among industry experts. To emphasize its clear focus on CO2 as the next-generation refrigerant, the company will showcase two of its innovative products on R744.com soon:
The Sabroe CO2/Ammonia Freeze Package (CAFP) is based on a cascade system combining the advantages of CO2 in the low-temperature side and ammonia on the high-temperature side. The whole unit is significantly more compact than traditional solutions, saving space and giving greater flexibility in production. Moreover, it uses up to 5-15% less power than conventional two-stage systems and even up to 45% less than single-stage refrigeration systems, ensuring low operating costs. The package comprises all necessary equipment, including compressors, pump separators, cascade coolers, a standstill cooling unit, an automatic oil recovery system in both circuits and a motor control panel.

The Sabroe HPO/HPC high-pressure reciprocating compressors are an integral part on the low-temperature side of CO2/Ammonia cascade plants. Due to their high efficiency and capacity, the six models covering between 97 and 452 m3/h swept volume at maximum speed ensure a low power consumption of cascade systems. Their excellent accessibility and easy-to-clean parts result in reduced service and repair costs, and minimal downtime. On top of that Johnson Control’s compressors feature lightweight pistons and hardened cylinder line surfaces which will significantly extend the service life for all moving parts.
Alexander Cohr Pachai, Senior Engineer at Johnson Control’s Building Efficiency business explains: “Industrial customers have already taken in CO2 as viable and long term refrigerant solution as the benefits of CO2 are obvious. We would like to participate in this initiative as a way to communicate to the world that we offer solutions that meet both efficiency and environmental requirements at a competitive price.”
