ixetic will start serial production of CO2 compressors |

ixetic has signed a contract for the serial production of the first CO2 compressor for Mobile Air Conditioning worldwide. Its partner, a "renowned" carmaker, will thus comply with EU legislation to phase out HFC-134a even before the 2011 deadline.

As announced on the company's website, ixetic signed a contract on 17 December with an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) to deliver its newly developed compressor for CO2-based air conditioning systems. The identity of the car manufacturer, however, was not revealed. With the serial production of the CO2 (R744) compressor, ixetic, hydraulic and vacuum pumps specialist, will expand its product portfolio to a totally new area.

"We have spent 10 years developing our CO2 compressors. The signing of this contract today shows that our original decision to invest in this climate-friendly technology was the right one," said Georg Wolf, Managing Director of ixetic GmbH. "Our CO2 compressor is a world-leader both in terms of reliability and effectiveness," he added. ixetic's newly developed, patented control mechanism and the innovative housing concept were first presented at this year's IAA auto show in Frankfurt.
Wolf also confirmed that the company has already received a "number of other concrete requests for quote" for its R744 compressor.

EU legislation & VDA decision key drivers for ixetic's success
In September, the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA) decided to use R744 in future car air conditioning. The joint decision of all German carmakers for the environmentally friendly refrigerant was influenced by the upcoming phaseout of HFC-R134a, the refrigerant currently used in Mobile Air Conditioning. As from 2011 on, an EU Directive mandates that no refrigerant with a Global Warming Potential >150 can be used in MAC for new cars.
