DTI's Centre for Refrigeration and Heat Pump Technology has become a leading R&D centre for CO2 Technology, investigating the use of the natural refrigerant in sub- and transcritical systems for industrial and commercial refrigeration, air-conditioning and heat pumps. For more than a decade, DTI has been a globally leading expert in the above areas, offering a unique combination of practical and theoretical experience in CO2 (R744) systems.
Today, DTI manages one of the world's most modern laboratories suited for testing and verification of single R744 components and complete systems. Its Centre for Refrigeration and Heat Pump Technology has set up the world's largest testing facility for industrial CO2 refrigeration plants in order to optimize the production capacity of refrigeration machinery, such as soft-ice machines. In addition to developing advanced computer software, the Centre offers training and consultancy services to companies and public authorities.

Current projects
The Centre participates actively in projects providing technical support to the refrigeration industry in the transition towards natural refrigerants. In its "Knowledge Centre for HFC free cooling", supported by the Danish Environmental Protection Agency, the institute cooperates with consultants and universities to provide the Danish refrigeration industry with knowledge about all kinds of HFC-free systems.
DTI's Engineering Services

Key services by DTI include:- Test & Documentation: laboratory testing of CO2 components (heat exchangers, compressors, valves etc.) and systems (accredited tests of systems from 50W to 4 MW)
- Consultancy: refrigeration-related consultancy for the construction or renovation of plants / supermarkets using natural refrigerants
- Dissemination of know-how: international theoretical courses and practical hands-on training for installers and engineers of refrigeration systems
- Software development
Reaction
"For about 10 years, Danish Technological Institute has been involved in CO2 and today we consider ourselves to be one of the leading Institutes in the field. We are now in a position to help companies all around the world that are looking for ways to substitute HFC for efficient CO2 systems," says Claus S. Poulsen, Centre Manager.
"It has been a natural step for the Institute to join R744.com in order to promote the Institute and its services, and to ensure continued international activities in the period of transition towards natural refrigerants," he adds.
Background
Founded in 1906, DTI is one of the oldest independent, not-for-profit institutes in the world. The Institute currently has 850 employees, making it one of the world's largest private institutes to supply technological services such as consultancy, tests, certification and training to companies and public-sector organisations. It is located at six premises throughout Denmark, with two locations in Sweden.
