"Despite the different ups and downs regarding the next generation refrigerant over the last years, ixetic was always convinced that R744 would be the preferred choice by leading car manufacturers, as the VDA decision shows", explains Willi Parsch, Manager of ixetic’s Mobile Air Conditioning (MAC) business.
ixetic counts on more than 10 years of experience in the development of R744 (CO2) components. After positive results from extensive testing in prototypes and in-house, ixetic has recently started small volume production of their brand new swash ring compressor family at its Bad Homburg facilities. The company expects to offer same quality performance as the R134a compressors from today's leading suppliers, in order to start mass production soon.

R744 Compressor development
ixetic is confident that the design concept of the swash ring compressor is competitive. And the results so far are more than promising: test data proves that the characteristics critical to R744 compressors, such as leakage rate, volumetric efficiency and initial starting will be robust during production, and can be monitored online.
Mona Tafvizi, from ixetic's MAC design department, confirms it: "It is remarkable that ixetic has process data available so early in the project. This enables us to do several optimisation loops before finalising the design and process."

Compressor: Next steps
ixetic will increase the capacity of the existing production line progressively, thereby gaining increasing process data. Compressors leaving this production line will be tested for reliability and performance on endurance test benches and in test cars.
Background
ixetic, a leading supplier of high precision automotive products, began developing automotive compressors for the specific demands of future R744 MAC systems ten years ago. The compressors from ixetic have already seen several million miles of road-testing under realistic and extreme driving conditions.
