The new CO2OLdesk cooling systems are integrated in the raised floor beneath the desks to counteract the escalating heat loads produced by PCs. Running with recycled liquid carbon dioxide (R744) at 14°C, the system fully absorbs the rejected heat from the computer, reducing air temperatures from 30°C to comfortable 22 °C. This will significantly increase the user comfort and thereby the work performance of traders working in low-height buildings.
The cooling desk system, designed and installed by TROX AITCS, is currently running at the offices of the global investment bank JPMorgan. The installations will be completed by August, providing cooling to 350 traders on two floors. TROX is confident that JPMorgan will adopt CO2OLdesk as their preferred trading floor cooling solution, once first test have proved the efficiency of the system.
CO2 Technology superior to current solutions
|
Trox latest product outperforms currently used chilled water solutions, laboratory tests have found. While reducing energy consumption by 30%, the CO2-based systems is electrically benign and does not present a risk to PC equipment or under-floor cabling. In addition, CO2 features a seven times higher cooling capacity than chilled water, enabling extremely compact constructions for shallow floor voids. The CO2OLdesk solution will therefore facilitate higher density desks, computing and trading per square metre of floor area.

As a result, the dealer desk cooling system won the "Innovation of the Year" Award at the Building Services Annual Awards on 25 June. Other award-winning solutions based on CO2 are already running successfully in university and office buildings in London, UK.
