UNEP conference to discuss new refrigerants |
The 7th European Conference on technological innovations in the air conditioning and refrigeration industry will this year focus on legislative, technical, and environmental issues affecting the choice of new refrigerants, such as R744 (CO2).

The event on 8-9 June will highlight latest developments, perspectives and forecasts on new refrigerant plants and components, as well as maintenance, training and recovery issues. More specifically, representatives from international organisations, associations, universities, and the industry will discuss the use of energy-efficient systems, focusing in this context on R744 (CO2) as a sustainable option in commercial and industrial refrigeration.
On occasion of the 10th anniversary of the Kyoto Protocol and the 20th anniversary of the Montreal Protocol the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), in collaboration with the Centro Studi Galileo, decided to organize this conference to spotlight global warming as a most pressing issue affecting the industry. Given that the refrigeration and air conditioning business worldwide faces upcoming legislative restrictions on fluorinated gases, the event seeks to initiate a major industry shift towards sustainable cooling systems. The natural refrigerant R744 features as a highly environmentally friendly and energy-efficient solution for a wide range of applications.

R744 in the media
On occasion of the Milan conference, UNEP has published a special international issue focusing on environmentally safe systems for the refrigeration and air conditioning industry. R744 is highlighted as a most energy-efficient solution for Mobile Air Conditioning, commercial refrigeration and heat pump systems by leading carmakers (Fiat), beverage companies (Coca-Cola), and research institutes (SINTEF Energy Research).
