87% of Europeans are now concerned about climate change - with 50% being even "very much" concerned - finds a new survey from the European Commission on the citizens' perception regarding energy savings and global warming.
Given that 82% think that the production and consumption of energy in their home country has a negative impact on global warming, a high majority is ready to change their energy consumption habits in the next decade (76%), and to install energy-saving heating, cooling, lighting, and other such equipment (72%). The use of efficient vehicle and residential cooling and heating systems will definitely play a major role in this context.
Other key findings from the survey:
|
- 80% of EU citizens say energy efficiency influences their decision when buying household appliances, with more than half of them (48%) admitting that it influences them even "very much".
- Nearly half of the EU citizens (48%) demand subsidies from national governments to support energy efficient solutions, 25% ask for more information on efficient use of energy, and 21% favour strict standards for energy consuming equipment.

The survey's results show that consumers not only demand climate friendly and efficient solutions, but that they also expect policymakers to actively support the introduction and use of such technologies. R744 (CO2) as a sustainable and efficient refrigerant in cooling and heating systems for Mobile Air Conditioning, residential and commercial applications could help to both reduce the burden on global warming and achieve energy savings.
Background
The survey, conducted among 25,800 individuals in all 27 EU Member States, comes at the same time when the EU head of states gather in Brussels to discuss European and national strategies to combat climate change. The on-going "EU Summit", held from 8 to 9 March, is expected to provide more proposals on the implementation of concrete policy measures.
R744.com will report on the outcomes of this high-level meeting.
