CO₂ Freezing

Description

One of the earliest examples of modern CO₂ freezing was with plate freezers and Star Refrigeration where one of the first. Due to massive reduction in pressure drop in the individual plate connection hoses, the system easily outperformed even the most stringent targets set by the designers. Couple this rapid freezing with the ability to achieve hot gas defrosting using star’s patented “Hot Gas Generator” and the result was an incredibly fast freeze followed by and incredibly quick release “surface defrost”. A more recent application was for a blast freezer installation and again the performance exceeded expectation. The original application back in 1998 was for Nestlé for an R22 coffee freeze drying plant. In addition several supermarket distribution centres have achieved a non-glycol, non direct ammonia solution using ammonia/CO₂ cascade. With initial development complete, Star Refrigeration, with its focus on the UK, is seeking international partners, or individuals to join their winning team and take these exciting products to new places.
