After Konvekta’s UltraLight model for bus air conditioning sparked high interest among European manufacturers at last year’s IAA trade fair, the model now goes into serial production. In 2010, the unit will also be available with the natural refrigerant CO2.

Konvekta’s UL series, the world’s lightest such unit, has appealed to leading European bus manufacturers who have ordered the model from August on. The UL unit, first presented as a world premiere at the international trade fair for commercial vehicles IAA in Hanover last September, has convinced the industry through its 30% weight savings, translating to 65-75 kg of weight reduction compared to traditional systems. Suitable for top roof installation the UL series uses a completely new durable construction material able to integrate all necessary components while ensuring a robust and safe installation on all bus types. The easy to install, servicing-friendly model is based on a modular system ensuring best functionality, and ease of maintenance. Moreover, the construction material and all components will be 100% recyclable.

From 2010 on, the UL model series ranging from 24-44 kW will also be available with the natural refrigerant CO2 (R744), the company confirmed in a press released published late July. This will further reduce the fuel consumption and overall carbon footprint of buses. The especially low maintenance costs and overall minimal life-cycle-costs are expected to also draw interest from outside Europe.

Konvekta’s CO2 expertise

What is still taking time to become established in the passenger vehicles sector, has been proven to successfully work in larger vehicles for years: CO2 mobile air conditioning. Since the 1990s, Konvekta has been at the forefront of developing innovative R744 solutions for buses and light-commercial vehicles. Several national and international awards, the latest one being the German “Umweltpreis” – Europe’s most renowned distinction for environmental protection –, give evidence of Konvekta’s strive to combine cost-competitive highest efficiency solutions with environmental benefits. Today, the German supplier is still a research and technology leader to help the commercial transport sector lower its carbon footprint.
