The second article on this year’s Energy Solution & Thermal Storage Fair in Tokyo, Japan provides an overview as well as an image gallery of the commercial CO2 heat pumps and novelties showcased at this annual event organised by TEPCO. + IMAGE GALLERY
Whereas the ‘focus and innovations’ in past years had been on residential CO
2 heat pumps, this year the feeling when being at the TEPCO (Tokyo Electric Power Company) fair was that the focus is more on the commercial side.
The following trends and products can be observed for the Japanese commercial CO
2 heat pump market:
- CO2 heat pumps with a capacity above 30 kW
- CO2 heat pumps with a capacity of 15 kW that are doubled to deliver comfortably for commercial applications
- More and more companies are following the example set already last year by Itomic, announcing hybrid CO2 heat pumps coupled with conventional boilers.
Commercial CO2 heat pumps showcased
- itomic: itomic announced two new Eco Cute models, extending therefore their product range due to increasing demand for specific capacities: The 65 kW model is expected this October/November, while the Y shaped 50 kW model in early 2011. Both models are expected to encompass a coefficient of Performance (COP) of 4.0.
- Mayekawa: Mayekawa showcased their water source Eco Cute and their latest model of their CO2 Heat Pump Hot Air Heater / Dryer "EcoSirocco" that is opening up new markets for the company in Japan.
- NTEC: In a trend kicked off by Itomic already last year and with conventional boiler manufacturers looking for new market opportunities, NTEC announced a hybrid CO2 heat pump, coupled with a gas boiler as an additional heat source. With boiler and heat pump manufacturers are hence working together, this “win-win” idea enables access to the retrofit market.
- Mitsubishi: Mitsubishi highlighted on its stand the noise reduction of 1 dB less compared to last year) they have achieved through putting in place additional sound insulation around the compressor.
Other companies showcasing CO
2 heat pumps included Hitatchi, TOMOE and Showa.
