As of January 2010, all new stores of German food retailer ALDI SÜD will be equipped with Carrier’s CO2OLtecTM transcritical CO2 refrigeration systems, minimising the retailer’s emissions and energy costs related to the use of refrigeration. Carrier has already installed 100 units of its system worldwide.
Leading manufacturer of commercial CO2 refrigeration systems Carrier has signed an agreement with leading discounter in the German food retailing ALDI SÜD, according to which as of January 2010 all new stores of the retailer will be equipped with Carrier’s CO2OLtecTM transcritical CO2 refrigeration systems. The CO2 specialist further announced today that it has reached an environmental milestone with the opening of its 100th CO2OLtecTM installation at a new ALDI SÜD store in Germany.

The wide deployment of Carrier’s CO2OLtecTM technology by ALDI SÜD, will facilitate the retailer in achieving its goals regarding emissions reductions by means of eliminating direct refrigerant emissions while at the same time realising energy and hence operating cost savings.

The move is a consequent development and continuation of the pioneering role of the two companies in deploying CO2 refrigeration systems in Germany. More specifically, Carrier has to date commissioned 18 CO2OLtecTM systems for the retailer, with the number accounting for more than half of the total installations of its system in Germany.

“Carrier's innovative CO2OLtecTM technology offers a good opportunity for food retailers that are concerned about global warming and want to improve the environmental impact of their refrigeration systems. We are very proud that ALDI SÜD, that is known for being visionary, trusts in our CO2OLtecTM technology", said Philippe Delpech, President of Carrier Commercial Refrigeration.

Hello,

as far as we know this only refers to the new stores in Germany. However, we will contact Carrier to ask them your questions and will write you the answer as a new comment to this article as soon as possible.

Does this refer to new stores in Germany only? Or Europe?
What about the overseas stores, e.g. in the USA?
Would be interesting to know, if products for the US would be installed by Carrier Germany (i.e. Linde) or by one of their US branches - which don't have this technology yet, I suppose.
Aldi would thus have the possibility to promote and boost CO2 solutions in many other countries.
