Japanese Eco Cute shipments exceed 2 million landmark

Shipments of Japanese CO₂ heat pumps have exceeded 2 million units as of the end of October 2009. To mark the event, 3 Japanese industry associations are launching the "Thank you! 2 million EcoCute" campaign. In addition, a target of 10 million Eco Cute units by FY 2020 has been set.

As of the end of October, cumulative shipments of Eco Cute heat pumps running on natural refrigerant CO₂ have reached 2,027,000 units, reports the Japan Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Industry Association (JRAIA). This compares a cumulative of 1,740,000 units shipped by the end of 2008 (see diagram at the bottom of the page).

New "Thank you! 2 million EcoCute" campaign created

To mark the 2 million units Eco Cute breakthrough, the Federation of Electric Power Companies of Japan (FEPCJ), and the Japan Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Industry Association (JRAIA) will run a campaign from November 2009 - March 2010.

The campaign, featuring the logo tagline “Thank you! 2 million Eco Cute” (see article picture), will:

• Target mass media coverage
• Be promoted on the companies’ website homepage
• Be featured in company brochures and catalogues
• Be used in product exhibitions

Targeting 10 million Eco Cute units by 2020

According to the press release, the Federation of Electric Power Companies of Japan is promoting the Eco Cute for the public and private sectors, recognising the technology’s potential to delivering a low-carbon society. The target set is to achieve shipments of 10 million units by FY 2020.
