ESK Schultze adds Oil Separators for transcritical R744 application

The German specialist in the field of refrigeration, air conditioning and heat pumps is showcasing its first series of oil separators on R744.com. It is specifically designed for high pressure CO2 applications and features an increase of the COP while saving energy.
ESK Schultze adds Oil Separators for transcritical R744 application Based on several years of experiences in developing and selling many different systems for subcritical CO2 applications, as well as transcritical oil management components, ESK Schultze is now presenting its new transcritical product series. The oil separator series BOS2…CDH is equipped with coalescence filter elements for the efficient removal of oil and an easy exchange of the filter elements of the flanged versions.

Special challenges for oil managements systems using CO2 are the higher density of the R744 refrigerant as well as the exceeding of the critical point during the compression process with pressures up to 130bar. Therefore, an efficient oil-gas separation technology becomes crucial and ESK Schultze tested all products with 100% x-ray for all welding seams and proved pressure and tightness reliability in tests with dry nitrogen at 185bar pressure. To ensure the reliability at the maximum working pressure of 130bar the BOS2…CDH oil separators are additionally equipped with a connection for an oil level sensor instead of an internal float valve, that controls the oil return via an external valve in the oil management system.

One of the most important advantages of ESK Schultze’s BOS2…CDH series is the high efficiency. The reduction of oil in refrigeration cycle has a positive impact for example on the heat transfer in the heat exchangers. That way the compressor operating time can be reduced which saves energy and finally improves the COP of the system.
