SWEP, one of the world's leading suppliers of compact brazed heat exchangers (CBEs), has developed a double wall unit for high-pressure CO2 refrigeration and heat pump applications. The highly performing B16DW-U is perfectly reliable to protect the cooled food chain in supermarkets, saving capital, running costs and valuable retail space.
SWEP, developing efficient heat exchangers for refrigeration, air conditioning, heating, ventilation and district heating applications, is offering a comprehensive range of compact brazed heat exchangers (CBEs) to meet all needs of food cabinet producers and supermarkets of all sizes in different climatic conditions. Now, the leading supplier has developed a range of CBEs to work reliably in CO
2 cascade refrigeration systems, booster systems, and pumped R744 systems. The product soon to be presented by SWEP on R744.com will be the ultra high-pressure version B16DW-U, a double wall heat exchanger designed for all kind of applications especially where a leak can be crucial and must therefore be detectable. The CBE, featuring a reinforced steel frame held together by bolts, hence combines double wall safety with both thermal efficiency and cost efficiency.
SWEP offers technology to meet the needs of smaller stores requiring up to 80 kW MT and 10 kW LT cooling, as well as for supermarkets where the cooling capacity required is up to 250 kW MT and 50 kW LT. Its ColdPlate range specifically caters for CO
2 systems operating at working pressures of up to 45 bar, as well as transcritical applications at 140 bar. It helps meet the legal requirements on the critical charge, provides the mechanical strength for CO
2 installations, and aims at a high COP value in supermarket refrigeration.
The heat exchanger shows also high efficiency employed as an evaporator and gas cooler for industrial chillers of up to 50 kW cooling capacity and heat pump applications. The safety feature makes the unit suitable for directly cooling IT-server cabinets.
SWEP’s CO2 track record
Building on decades of expertise in the field of heat transfer, SWEP took the chance to gain additional experience in CO
2 installation during the last years by setting up the innovative technology in over 100 supermarkets. Systems using SWEP’s CO
2 CEB range can now recover much of the energy used for cooling and re-use it for heating, resulting in a high coefficient of performance (COP).
Reaction
“SWEP is joining R744.com, a center for information and expertise concerning the natural refrigerant R744 (carbon dioxide). SWEP’s business mission emphasizes strong support for the global conversion to sustainable products and processes, and the company is among the world’s leaders in the development of technologies to exploit refrigerants like R744. SWEP’s brazed heat exchangers enable R744 to be used safely and efficiently under the demanding physical conditions required, an important advance for R744 and for our planet”, says Henrik Ewetz, Market Communications Manager at SWEP International AB.
